Operation Honor: Rural Salute® was founded on a simple belief: a ZIP code should never determine what a veteran has earned. We bring resources, connection, and dignity directly to rural communities across the country.
Michelle and Chris Lang founded Operation Honor: Rural Salute after experiencing the barriers of returning to civilian life in rural Pennsylvania.
Chris served eight years on active duty in the Army. The couple returned to Pennsylvania in 2019 and began building a way for rural veterans and their families to find resources and community.
The organization focuses on helping rural veterans and their families find resources, meaningful connections and opportunities close to their communities.
Its published values include meeting veterans where they are, pursuing progress, taking practical action, building belonging and innovating with purpose.
The OHRS community connects rural veterans with other people who understand life after service. Veterans, spouses, caregivers and allies are welcome.
The original community platform provides resource updates, opportunities to connect locally and nationally, and a way to request help or referrals.
